Catheter Treatment Options

Types of Catheters:

Urethral (Foley) Catheter (UC) - is a tube inserted through the urethra by a skilled healthcare provider or caregiver, held in place with a balloon and left in the bladder.

Intermittent Catheter (IC)- is a tube inserted through the urethra into the bladder by a skilled healthcare provider, caregiver or patient each time the bladder needs to be drained.

Suprapubic Tube (SPT) - is a tube placed by a physician just above the pubic bone into the bladder with a minimally-invasive technique, held in place with a balloon for patients requiring short-term or chronic bladder management. Tube changes, if necessary, can be performed by a skilled healthcare provider, caregiver or the patient. Reversal is easily performed by simply removing the tube.
